Wanted: DIY Lamp

Forgive me, gentle readers, it has been one whole week since my last post! I could tell you how super busy I’ve been, or that allergies have got me down, but those would just be excuses. The truth is, I’ve rather enjoyed being lazy over the past few days! Don’t worry – I haven’t been totally useless. I’ve actually been DIY-ing, crafting, and planning so I’ll have quite a bit to show you over the coming weeks. To start things off, check out a little DIY lamp project I took on for my new office (more on that later).
I snatched up an ugly blue lamp and a dirty shade at the flea market. Note: this picture does not do the ugliness of the lamp justice. When I found the lamp it was sporting an awful pleated and painted shade. Eek! But I couldn't beat the very attractive price of $4.99 for the whole kit and caboodle.

I spray painted the gold bits on the lamp with a brushed nickel finish and the blue bits with a deep pink shade, both of which I already had on hand! Note: I should fess-up to the fact that I was not a very methodical taper, and that some of the pink bled through on the silver base. Oh well.
Next, I took that ratty shade and covered it with some leftover fabric from my sweet kitchen curtains. Note: Another confession – I’ve never covered a shade before and didn’t take into consideration the fact that the shade is smaller on the top than on the bottom. Thus, the fancy pleat action. Oh well.

Alas, the finished product isn’t exactly what I imagined, but it’s definitely a step up from where it started. Note: please forgive the poor photos. They are a result of late-night crafting. Oh well.
DIY Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert DIY-er. I don’t always do things the “right” way, or even the “easy” way; I do however, enjoy myself and I am usually pleased with the results - usually.
