Let’s imagine for a moment that I have just finished another chapter of Emma and I’ve turned off the light in preparation for a blissful sleep. Then I hear it – the distinct sound of sharp claws (or possibly fangs?) trying to force their way into my peaceful home. Nightmarish, right? It was no bad dream my friends, it was just another evening in this old house of mine. I was too terrified to venture into my basement to find the source of the mystery sounds, and convinced myself it must be a kitten so I could fall asleep.Cut to this evening – the courageous duo that is Drew and Sommer pay me a visit and I wrangle them into investigating my critter problem.
Drew is prepared for the worst (and I’m hoping for the best).
See how scary my basement is?!? You wouldn’t dare check this out at midnight either.
Alas, no sign of a kitten (or opossum, rat, squirrel or raccoon for that matter), but we did find a hidden liquor bottle in the crawl space. How tawdry!
Hopefully my unwanted house guest found his way back outside, but I will be sure to check the perimeter of the house in the daylight tomorrow to discover his point of entry.
Have you experienced critters in your home? Any suggestions for removing them peacefully?

I lived with flying squirrels for way longer than I would have liked. It was miserable! There was nothing peaceful about removing them -- it took two different extermination companies to get them out.
ReplyDeleteHope nothing happens like this in my new house!
Me too! I didn't hear the scratching last night, so hopefully my guest found his way out. I have to say, I was really hoping to find a kitten down there...
