Wanted: Resolutions

Posted by Megean on 12.29.2010
I think New Year’s Resolutions are scary. They are lofty goals that somehow I always fall short of. But without goals, how do you know what you’re working for? Last year I went through my home life a little haphazardly. I just did what I wanted, when I wanted. With this method, I never got around to doing some pretty important improvements around the house. So, this year I’m making some home resolutions.

1) Install a washer and dryer. This may sound simple, but I’ll have to call in an electrician to install a dryer hook-up since there’s not one in my darling old home. While he’s here I’ll probably have him hook me up with some outlets outside too.

2) Build a coop and raise some chickens. I am so excited about this, even if everyone thinks they’ll be stinky. How cute is this coop?

3) Settle in the guest bedroom. My guest room is basically a junk room. It houses all of my unfinished projects, my sewing machine, and is super small to boot. It will take some work, but I’ve already got the plan in my head. Think pink with mustard accents.

4) Landscaping. You may have heard about my mowing misadventures this year. Well now that I’ve got a year of yard work under my belt, I think I’m ready for some more challenging garden activities, including a vegetable garden, a raised flower bed, and some darling potted plants. Then I can have a garden party!

5) De-clutter and carefully consider everything that goes into my home. Since I work at a flea market (did I tell you I went back? It’s an addiction), it’s easy to hoard all sorts of cute and free knick-knacks and furniture. But I don’t need it.

There you have it. And since they’re clearly broadcast at this point, maybe I’ll stick to them this year!

Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?

Whatever happened to "I wanna be bad." A much more fun aspiration than owning chickens in my opinion.

Hurricane Megean here - still want to be bad, but in a "I raise chickens and have pretty peonies" kind of way. If it helps, I'll probably have a stiff cocktail in my hand whilst doing all of these things.
