Wanted: A DC Redo

I'm probably backwards-sharing here, but I just can't wait any longer to share this fantastic redo! Remember my pal Chelsea from our Black Friday shopping spree or her great porch update? I spent part of my vacation helping her mix things up in her DC apartment. I'll share some more of the fabulous details later, but check out the big picture befores and afters.Chelsea's apartment needed a cohesive, but punchy, palette and some great storage strategies. Here's her digs before:
See that closet door by the sofa? It is in a difficult place when trying to accommodate the swing of the door and efficiently use her small space. We took the door out of the picture for easy access to a very necessary storage closet and added a floor to ceiling curtain to keep things chic (not everyone was meant for the open storage lifestyle).

With the door out of the way, we were able to move her matching yellow bookcases on either side of the sofa for some bright symmetry. Chelsea painted them herself! Be sure to check out the new throw pillows (some were recycled by recovering). We incorporated a splashy new palette with goldenrod yellow, peacock blue, navy and splashes of red, all on a neutral canvas. The ikat pillow on the sofa was a splurge, just to kick things up a notch.
Rearranging the furniture allowed for the creation of a darling reading nook (maybe my favorite feature of the room).

What do you think? I've got tons more details to share, like a killer upholstery project, painted furniture, and the cheapest art project ever.
