Wanted: Holiday Music Top 5

Posted by Megean on 12.09.2009

In honor of tonight’s kick-butt episode of Glee (I am reasonably confident that this show should be winning awards in the near future), I thought I’d recap some of my favorite festive tunes this holiday season.

5. Merry Christmas – Nat King Cole
Have you roasted chestnuts over an open fire? I sounds like a sure-fire way to induce holiday cheer.

4. Baby It’s Cold Outside – Margaret Whiting and Johnny Mercer
I only sing one side of the duet. I’ll let you guess which one.

3. Maybe This Christmas – Ron Sexsmith
I stole this one from The OC Chrismukkah album. It is hopeful and sweet and an all around good tune to encourage peace and joy this time of year.

2. My Only Wish (This Year) – Britney Spears/All I Want For Christmas is You – Mariah Carey
I am woman enough to admit that on any given day in December you can catch me belting out these jolly tunes (tied for the 2nd place ranking) on my commute to work. I just can’t help myself – they are so darn catchy!

1. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Bright Eyes
By far my all-time favorite holiday song - no matter the artist. I currently love the Bright Eyes version. Very pretty and sentimental.

Well there you have it – the top five seasonal songs on my rotation! What music is putting you in a joyous mood these days? And why haven’t those Glee kids put out a holiday album?

That was a bang-up episode of Glee.

This morning I heard Taylor Swift, one of my faves, doing her version of "Last Christmas." It was delightful!

I would have to say Mariah/Britney/Baby, It's Cold Outside are all on the top of my list too. With Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas close behind. WIll have to check out Bright Eyes's version today!

What about "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays"? It's a wonderful holiday tune.

What about Bob Dylan's Christmas album? Come on now. You've got to take a listen. And all proceeds go to charity...in perpetuity.
