Last weekend saw a DIY project a long time coming. Let’s look back to my very first grown-up apartment, furnished thanks to some hand-me-downs and cheap finds. All the basics were there: bed, table, couch, and Lazy Boy (don’t worry – I said goodbye to that staple). One thing was missing: a coffee table. I had grand ideas of turning a vintage flea market window into a stellar centerpiece. Alas, my lazy side prevailed and, three years later, you can find my fancy flea market window nestled in the basement – a DIY project for another day.
That brings us to last weekend. While cruising my local flea market (it was a mandatory cruise – I work there) I saw this stunner:
Luckily, I have a pretty active imagination and saw this instead:
Via Black and Spiro
So I handed over my $7.50 (that’s right!) and took this giant wicker basket home with me. Two cans of spray paint later, and I had a new coffee table!
I still need to hinge the lid on (it’s just a flat, detached piece), but it’s sturdy enough and provides some extra storage in my pretty teeny space – all for less than $15.00!
What do you think?

I love how you took the inspiration picture and translated it into your own style. And for just $15. Wow!
